What is the CARAT?
The CARAT is a questionnaire that assesses a variety of potential risks for a child and then reports only those factors affecting that child.
How long does it take?
The assessment takes about 6 or 7 minutes to fill out.
What does it do?
The CARAT scores asthma risks on 9 different factors of asthma risk and is greatly strengthened if skin test allergy data are available. (However, you can still receive helpful information from the assessment if your child does not have skin test allergy data or if it is not readily available.) The results of the CARAT are displayed in summary and graphical representations. The CARAT is meant to provide only a quick assessment that will point to areas that should be explored further.

What are saved assessments?
After completing your first assessment, you have the option of saving it for later review. You do this by creating a user name and password. Once this is done you can return to the CARAT to review all of the assessments you have completed.
Why should I save my assessments?
You can use the CARAT without saving your assessments. However, we offer this option for those who want to keep track of multiple assessments. This feature may be useful for asthma counselors who work with many families or by those who want to monitor their progress in reducing asthma risks in the home.
